Your contribution to TenneT

The Quality Advisor role is part of our Large projects Offshore Netherlands (LON) department, based in Arnhem and focuses on overseeing QA/QC activities for offshore 2GW substations under an EPCI contract. The position involves monitoring the HVDC contractor’s quality processes, particularly for vendor packages such as transformers, coolers, automation, and telecom. Key responsibilities include reviewing QC documentation, aligning Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), coordinating client inspections, participating in audits, and resolving quality-related issues.

Collaboration is essential, as the role requires working closely with discipline leads, Sub Project Leads (SPL), and the project’s Quality Manager. The job involves frequent travel to vendor sites, primarily in Europe, but also occasionally outside Europe, including Singapore, where the contractor’s offices are located. The scope currently includes three platforms built by the same EPCI contractor.

As a junior position, the Quality Advisor will receive support from the Quality Engineer and the Quality Manager. TenneT also offers training opportunities in HVDC and Quality to support professional development.

Your tasks and responsibilities:
  • Quality Assessment: Review vendor deliverables to ensure compliance with Employer’s Requirements.
  • Inspection Coordination: Align Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) with the EPCI contractor and coordinate client-side inspections.
  • Issue Monitoring: Track and address quality issues, non-conformities (NC), and open points, ensuring proper resolution.
  • Compliance Assurance: Support the implementation of Employer’s Requirements, particularly for HVDC.
  • Risk-Based Inspections: Organize and participate in inspections based on identified risks.
  • Project Management Support: Assist with scheduling tests and inspections, improving communication between contractors, TenneT, and suppliers.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with discipline teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and the EPCI contractor to resolve quality-related matters.

2GW Offshore Wind Program

More offshore wind energy is needed to achieve the climate goal of a 55% reduction of CO2 emissions by 2030. In 2022, the Government raised the target for offshore wind capacity from 11 to 21 gigawatts (GW) by 2030/2031. Achieving this target means offshore wind farms will supply 16% of Dutch energy needs. It also equates to approximately 75% of our current electricity consumption.

Our electricity consumption is, however, expected to increase. Therefore, we will need even more offshore wind to be developed after 2030. Future scenarios for energy systems (supply and demand) and the North Sea Energy Outlook (Noordzee Energie Outlook) indicate we will need between 38 and 72 GW of cumulative offshore wind capacity by 2050.
