TenneT is growing rapidly to realize its strategic ambitions and plays a leading role in the energy transition. Within the business unit Large Projects Offshore Netherlands (LON), we connect offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the mainland grid via innovative HVDC platforms and converter stations. Over the next 10 years, a massive amount of renewable energy needs to be integrated, both near the coast and further inland.
As a Technical Engineer Firefighting & Fire Detection, you will contribute your technical expertise to the realization of the 2GW HVDC grid expansion program in the Netherlands.
Your profile and background
We are looking for a highly skilled and proactive engineer who thrives in complex offshore projects and is passionate about ensuring the highest standards in firefighting and fire detection systems. You have a hands-on approach, take ownership of your work, and collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders to deliver safe and reliable solutions.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ship Operation Techniques, Marine Engineering or a comparable qualification (BSc or higher).

Minimum 5 years of experience with design, installation, testing, and commissioning of firefighting / fire detection systems.

Meticulous in reviews while maintaining a big-picture perspective.

Experience with offshore oil & gas or offshore wind platforms.

Knowledge of relevant norms and standards.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

High degree of independence, initiative, and assertiveness; no ‘nine-to-five mentality’.

Occupational medical fitness for offshore assignments according to the AWMF standard.

Willingness to occasionally travel abroad, e.g., to the UAE (Sharjah), manufacturing locations of low-voltage equipment, and optionally to fabrication yards in Southeast Asia or elsewhere.

Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Dutch is an advantage, but not mandatory.

How will you help power the Netherlands?
As Technical Engineer Firefighting & Fire Detection, you will play a key role in ensuring that all firefighting and fire detection systems within our 2GW HVDC projects are designed, tested, and implemented safely and efficiently. You will collaborate closely with contractors, internal stakeholders, and project leads to ensure compliance, quality, and operational readiness. Your main tasks include:
- Review all design deliverables from the Stations contractor within your discipline.
- Verify compliance of the design with TenneT’s requirements according to the Systems Engineering methodology.
- Collaborate with the (Sub)Project Lead to manage the EPCI contractor towards successful completion of design and execution.
- Witness testing of your packages at the vendor’s premises.
- Optionally: participate in commissioning and testing activities on the construction site.
- Align with internal stakeholders on design topics (e.g., Asset Management, Grid Field Operations, HSE).
- Contribute to the successful implementation of Safety by Design and Systems Engineering.
- Ensure the 2GW standard design is correctly implemented.
- Coordinate with experts and teams within Offshore NL/GER and other TenneT departments, taking lessons learned from previous large projects into account.

A permanent contract with a two-month probation period based on 40 hours per week or year contract with the intention to be determined after 1 or 2 years.
Market-conform salary in scale 8: €4151 to €8197 per month, excluding 8% holiday pay and a 6% year-end bonus, with 70% pension contribution.
