Enterprise Architect
TenneT is growing rapidly to realise its strategic ambitions and to play a leading role in the energy transition. This growth brings scale, complexity, and difficult long-term choices. To help guide these choices, we are looking for a seasoned Enterprise Architect who combines strategic insight, strong advisory skills, and deep understanding of technology landscapes.
This role is not about designing everything yourself, it is about shaping direction, enabling alignment, and helping the organisation make the right decisions at the right time.
Your profile and background
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise architecture or a comparable strategic role; experience in large, complex organisations is essential;
- Strong background in consultancy, advisory, or leadership roles, with demonstrated ability to position architecture in a strategic business context;
- Proven experience engaging with senior stakeholders, negotiating alignment on difficult topics, and maintaining credibility and trust;
- Ability to align technology direction with long-term business objectives, anticipating future needs while ensuring reliability, security, efficiency, and IT resilience;
- Broad and solid understanding of IT and operational technology (e.g. integration, software development, infrastructure), with the ability to abstract and reason at enterprise level;
- Capable of functionally steering and coaching IT architects across domains;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English. Fluency in Dutch is an advantage.
Your contribution to TenneT
Your role
The Enterprise Architecture function is part of the Business Technology Organization (BTO) of TenneT. You work within the Enterprise Architecture team (approximately 10 FTE) in the BTO Office and closely collaborate with IT architects, domain heads, and leadership across BTO.
You act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on enterprise architecture topics and architectural decision-making. You help translate TenneT’s strategy into a coherent architecture vision and roadmap, and, just as importantly, you help the organisation move towards it in a pragmatic and sustainable way.
This means:
- Balancing long-term strategic goals with short-term operational realities;
- Connecting perspectives across business, IT, and operational technology;
- Navigating competing interests and helping stakeholders reach well-considered decisions.
You
As an Enterprise Architect, you are comfortable operating in complex, ambiguous environments where not all answers are clear upfront. You take ownership, have the courage to take and defend decisions, and know how to bring people along—even when viewpoints differ. You:
- Translate strategy and vision into clear architectural direction and priorities;
- Provide guidance and challenge at the right level, without micromanaging;
- Build alignment by influencing rather than commanding;
- Mobilise the organisation around a shared vision and help turn that vision into reality;
- Keep the long-term interests of TenneT in view, even when short-term pressures are high.
You combine clarity of thought with strong interpersonal skills, and you understand that architecture in a large organisation is as much about people, trust, and timing as it is about technology.
