Operating Engineer (Distributed Control Systems)
Your profile and background
We are looking for a driven professional with a strong technical background in offshore and high-voltage systems. To thrive in this role, you bring:
- Education & Experience: BSc or MSc in Engineering, with 5+ years of experience in offshore platforms, maintenance, or a related field.
- Technical Expertise: Specialization in one or more areas such as GIS switchgear, Siprotec protection devices, HV SCADA, or Process Control Systems (e.g., Honeywell Experion).
- System Understanding: Familiarity with transformers, HVA/C, fire safety systems, CCTV, UPS, hazardous drain systems, and analyzers.
- IT & OT Knowledge: Understanding of network architectures (Purdue model, ISA-99) and their role in industrial automation.
- Project Management: Experience with PRINCE2, V-model, or similar methodologies.
- Software & Data Handling: Proficiency in maintenance management systems (SAP preferred).
- Safety & Compliance: Strong knowledge of occupational safety, environmental protection, and offshore regulations.
- Languages: Dutch & English (B2 level or higher, verbal & written).
- Mindset: Solution-driven, hands-on, team player, and able to perform under pressure.
- Additional Requirements: Offshore medical certification, GWO training, and a valid driver’s license.

Your Impact
As an Operating Engineer at TenneT, you play a crucial role in the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance for our electrical, automation, cable, mechanical, and structural systems. You also oversee assigned projects, from detailed engineering and tendering to execution.
Beyond maintenance, you ensure that new assets are seamlessly integrated into our operations. Working closely with project engineers and external partners, you support the commissioning and handover process, guaranteeing smooth transitions and operational readiness.
What You’ll Be Doing
Shape technical strategy – Define the direction for operations and maintenance to ensure reliability and efficiency.
Lead and manage projects – Oversee a portfolio of small projects, prioritizing tasks based on risk and financial considerations.
Optimize maintenance processes – Monitor systems, resolve faults, and ensure timely execution of maintenance activities.
Ensure seamless asset integration – Work with project teams to incorporate operational requirements into new systems.
Drive technical improvements – Provide insights and lessons learned to enhance maintenance engineering and asset planning.
Manage vendor contracts – Oversee service agreements, evaluate tenders, and ensure effective contract execution.
Budget accountability – Manage costs related to maintenance, repairs, and investment measures.
