Your contribution to TenneT

Core responsibilities

Operational readiness & engineering review
Guide design, commissioning, operations and maintenance considerations for electrical auxiliary systems and automation, safeguarding availability and long-term integrity.

•Data & documentation quality
Assess, enhance and safeguard documentation (from single-line diagrams to I/O lists and cause & effect matrices) to improve safety, traceability and maintenance performance.

•Improvement & optimization
Propose practical system and architecture improvements, capture lessons learned, and contribute to the continuous Operational Readiness Framework.

•Safety leadership
Promote a strong safety culture across on  and offshore sites and interfaces (incl. energization controls, lock out/tag out, and test regimes).

Scope of systems (typical)

•LV power distribution: switchgear, MCCs, UPS, batteries, emergency/standby generators, earthing & bonding, lightning protection, power quality and protection coordination.

•Auxiliary & building services: lighting/ELV, small power, heat tracing, emergency lighting, cable systems & routing (EMC/segregation), cable sizing and derating.

•Automation & control: SCADA/ICSS, PLCs, HMI, historian, I/O, networks (Profinet/Modbus), hard wired ESD/F&G interfaces, loop checks, cause & effect validation.

•Instrumentation & safety: F&G detection loops, gas detection, UPS-backed critical circuits, interface to mechanical auxiliaries (e.g., Freshwater maker, HVAC, diesel gensets).

Additional Role Component: Site Inspector – Electrical Auxiliary & Automation (Singapore/Batam)

Your Role on the Yard

During the construction, integration, and commissioning phase of our offshore grid connection assets in Singapore/Batam, you will take on the role of Site Inspector – Electrical Auxiliary & Automation Systems.

In this role, you work embedded within the project delivery team on the yard, while maintaining a direct functional reporting line to the Operational Readiness (ORE) team in Arnhem led by Sander Kuiper.

You act as the eyes and ears of the Operational Readiness organization, safeguarding TenneT’s operational interests during construction and ensuring future assets can be safely, reliably and efficiently operated once taken into service. Your presence on site is essential for ensuring long term asset integrity, validating contractor deliverables, and enabling a smooth transition from project delivery to operations.

Key responsibilities on the yard

1) Represent Operational Readiness on site
•Serve as the primary ORE point of contact for electrical auxiliary and automation topics.
•Identify and escalate risks or deviations that could impact long term operability, maintainability, availability or safety and escalate these proactively within the project team on site and the ORE team in Arnhem.

2) Electrical & Automation verification
•Monitor installation quality and compliance for LV switchgear, MCCs, UPS/batteries, emergency/standby generators, lighting, heat tracing, earthing/bonding and cable systems (EMC/segregation).
•Perform structured walkdowns and verify against SLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, cause & effect and vendor docs.
•Check maintainability and accessibility (e.g., functional segregation, clearances, lifting/handling, replaceability).

3) Commissioning readiness & testing
•Participate as ORE representative in MC/Pre Comm/Comm activities, HAT/SAT, energization checks, and punch listing for E&A scope.
•Validate loop checks, cause & effect testing, protection settings philosophy (coordination at a high level), and UPS/generator functional tests aligned with operational needs.
•Ensure lessons learned are captured and fed back to ORE.

4) O&M documentation review & status tracking
•Review and track the status of O&M manuals, as built SLDs, cable schedules, I/O lists, cause & effect matrices, instrument index, maintenance plans, and spares lists.
•Validate newly written maintenance and test procedures from EPC/vendors for safety, practicality and compliance; ensure traceability and completeness at handover.

5) Assurance, reporting & risk mitigation
•Deliver clear reports to the Arnhem ORE team: progress, risks, deviations, mitigations, and recommended actions.
•Raise, track and drive closure of punch items for E&A scope.

6) Coordination & communication
•Work daily with project engineering, commissioning leads, HSE, package vendors, and yard teams.
•Facilitate alignment meetings between the yard project team and ORE Arnhem, ensuring shared visibility on status and priorities.
•Contribute to spare parts philosophy validation (critical spares, commissioning spares, shelf life items, interchangeability).

Behavioural expectations for yard deployment
Operational mindset: you think in availability, maintainability, lifecycle cost and safe energisation.
Structured & assertive: you challenge constructively, document decisions, and keep momentum under pressure.
Clear communicator: you translate complex site realities into concise actions and updates.
Culturally adaptable: you build trust across disciplines and cultures in a dynamic yard environment.
Safety first: you demonstrate exemplary behaviour around LOTO, energisation, and work permits.

This will be our challenge

Offshore is responsible for the development, construction, and management of the offshore electricity grid. With the North Sea as the green engine of the energy transition, Offshore plays a clear and vital role within TenneT’s organisational structure.

The Offshore division manages the entire lifecycle of all TenneT offshore installations, from development and realisation to maintenance and handover to the Operate division. A crucial task is the construction of 2 GW offshore ‘sockets’, which collect and transport generated wind energy to the mainland.
