As a Sub Project Lead Construction - Yard, based in Johor Bahru - Malaysia, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the construction activities at the yard, ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of critical offshore components. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, technical standards, and contractual agreements, contributing to a reliable and sustainable electricity grid.
Your profile and background

What do you bring?
- Relevant professional experience in construction management and technical project management (minimum of 5 years).
- Advanced professional experience in mechanical or civil engineering or construction management.
- Effective communication skills: You are able to communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders and contractors.
- Fluent in business English, both written and spoken.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a comparable field.
- Fluency in English is required for this position, both written and spoken. Job interviews for this position will be (partly) in English. Please send us your application document in English as well.
First 3-6 months will be based in Arnhem, The Netherlands before moving to Johor Bahru, Malaysia on a residential basis (for about 3 to 5 years). Only Schengen passport holders can apply due to Dutch law and visa regulations.
Your contribution to TenneT
How do you help keep the Netherlands running? As Sub Project Lead Construction, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire construction process, ensuring the delivery of high-quality 2GW topsides and jackets. Starting point for this position is the Netherlands: for the first 3-6 months you'll be based in Arnhem, The Netherlands. After this you will move to Johor Bahru, Malaysia on a residential basis.
Additionally, you will be responsible for:
- Technical Support & Coordination: Support a Malaysia-based specialist team, organize technical meetings, and ensure stakeholder communication.
- Schedule & Quality Monitoring: Track project timelines, mitigate delays, and ensure yard activities align with design and contracts.
- Contract Management: Oversee contract processes, handle changes, and ensure compliance with SHE regulations.
- Decision-Making Support: Advise team members on technical issues and provide key information to the Lead Site Manager.
- Construction & Commissioning: Manage commissioning, coordinate system tests, and ensure full operational readiness.
- Procurement & Technical Management: Support procurement and oversee technical project activities, including WBS development.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Review documentation, track progress, and report updates to the Lead Site Manager
You will be working closely with a team of specialists, both in Malaysia and the Netherlands, to ensure that all activities meet the required technical standards and best practices. This will require close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that all parties are aligned and that the project moves forward as smoothly as possible.

Large Projects Offshore is a key contributor to the energy transition. The Unit is responsible for the current and future development of the offshore grid as a whole and subsequently for the development and realization of the DC interconnectors and the Offshore Wind Farm grid connections in both the German and Dutch sectors of the North Sea.

- A solid pension via ABP, with 70% of your premium paid by TenneT.
- 43 days off per year.
