Your contribution to TenneT

Our ambition
Develop a system where Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is no longer a limiting factor by implementing a robust, portfolio-aligned EMC strategy that minimizes emissions, enhances immunity, and protects both our own and third-party assets from electromagnetic interference. However, this level of ambition can only be achieved if we are highly innovative. It requires us not only to apply existing standards, but to actively push the boundaries of current technology, methodologies, and domain knowledge.
We position TenneT as a pioneer and industry frontrunner in EMC by:
  • Developing and applying next‑generation measurement, modelling, and mitigation techniques.
  • Stimulating research and collaboration with market parties, knowledge institutions, and suppliers.
  • Integrating EMC requirements early and consistently in our design, engineering, and investment decisions.
  • By placing innovation at the core and embracing our leadership role, we enable a future‑proof, reliable, and scalable energy system in which EMC is no longer a constraint, but a driver of progress.

Our challenge
A safe transport of electricity is of great importance. When installing a new TenneT high-voltage system, it is necessary to investigate the impact of magnetic fields on people or equipment, as well as the touch voltage during short circuits according to legal regulations.
In the past, we used an EMC approach for each project. Now, we increasingly determine the EMC status in a specific area based on requirements such as NEN 3654. We assess whether existing pipelines or cables nearby could be affected by the new connection.
Your role involves reviewing reports on EMC calculations and analyses for high-voltage lines, cable connections, and switch stations provided by our partners. You’re not afraid to be critical to ensure high quality and safety standards.
To perform these reviews, you need extensive knowledge of conducting EMC calculations and analyses for high-voltage systems.

Your contribution to TenneT
  • As an EMC Engineer, you help ensure that our high‑voltage projects are safe and future‑proof by applying your technical expertise and collaborative mindset throughout every project phase.
  • You independently review complex EMC analyses for high‑voltage infrastructure and translate guidelines into clear, reliable engineering solutions.
  • You act as a trusted sparring partner by overseeing deliverables, giving constructive feedback and coordinating multiple stakeholders with confidence.
  • Your curiosity and innovative approach help you identify improvements early and contribute to more standardised, digital and data‑driven ways of working.
