Your contribution to TenneT
The electrical power system is in the middle of a transition that is significantly increasing the complexity of system operations. This change is driven by political, regulatory, environmental and technological background. Therefore, System Operations needs to be prepared for the challenges ahead by influencing future regulation and relevant stakeholders, by contributing to national & international activities, identifying future needs for innovations, developing ingenious concepts and knowledge to ensure TenneT is prepared to also operate the future power system with the same level of reliability and security, as we have today!
In the department of System Operation you contribute directly to these challenges by identifying the future needs and taking initiative for necessary developments as well as contributing to the challenges of today. You promote innovation and propose improvements for system operations in close collaboration with many internal and external as well as national and international stakeholders.
Power systems are evolving, and synchronous generation is increasingly replaced by inverter-based resources (IBRs). This shift leads to amplified and accelerated grid dynamics and an increased need for stability monitoring in system operations to ensure grid security at all times.
- You will contribute to innovative solutions for monitoring and analysis of various aspects of grid stability to be used in the control room of TenneT. In this way, you will directly contribute to improving grid security of the Dutch and European power systems
- You will directly contribute to the ongoing Dynamic Security Assessment (DSA) developments within TenneT
- You will contribute to grid resilience developments, such as inertia and system strength monitoring and utilization of wide-area equipment (PMUs, WAMS, WAMPAC…).
- You will closely cooperate with several departments on various stability initiatives (System Operations, Energy System Planning, Control Room of the Future…)
- You connect with the relevant process owners internal and external to system operations to provide a full picture about the challenges ahead for a stable future system operation.
- You will be given an opportunity to participate in national and international working groups (Entso-e, CIGRE, IEEE…) to bring these important aspects of future system operation forward and to propose relevant and innovative solutions through collaboration with relevant technical partners (market parties, developers, equipment manufacturers and other TSOs)
- You will be involved in future developments on grid stability & dynamics within TenneT SOP
Your profile and background
- Master or PhD in electrical/power system engineering (grid stability/dynamics focus is a benefit)
- Good understanding of power systems and/or power electronics is needed
- Experience in working for a grid operator in the field of system operations or development would be highly welcomed
- Some experience with power system analysis software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory and/or PSS/e is a must-have
- Some experience with coding and automation/scripting is needed (e.g. Python, MATLAB, R…). Knowledge of Python specifically is a benefit, particularly in the context of power systems
- You are a responsible and proactive individual with good working ethics. Furthermore, you are a curious person who likes to work on technically complex topics and be intellectually challenged
- A positive attitude towards working in an international team is of high importance; connection is key for you to succeed
- You have the ambition to learn and develop yourself and drive the energy transition together with your colleagues
- Very good verbal/writing skills in English are mandatory. Knowledge of Dutch can be beneficial
